Flight or fight when disaster strikes

I wrote this article some time ago, and thought that now, being asked the question on many occasions, this would be an apt time to re-run this often complex and throught provoking issue.

When disaster strikes, whether man-made or natural, and events turn so serious that one ponders on the issue as to whether to batten down the hatches and stay at home, or to brave the elements and evac to a safer place...As you will see from my article, all is not black and white and many 'tick boxes' have to be checked either way..... Read on... (Introduction only here, I have included the link below to read the whole article)

In a time of crisis, extreme emergency or pending disaster the majority of individuals have an inbuilt ‘survival chip’, this where the chemical in our body kicks in to inject a dose of adrenalin. The reactive condition is commonly known as ‘fight or flight’, whether to stay and combat the situation, or to use a little common sense and retreat or back off to fight another day.

In extreme and sudden examples this is demonstrated by sheer individual strength to overcome a life threatening situation, such as a mother lifting a vehicle off a trapped child, or developing a sudden ‘super power’ speed to overcome an animal attack and so on.

However, in our scenario we are dealing with a more longer-term situation, and up to a point the reactive conditioning will be similar, but coming in waves and troughs over a prolonged period and at a much lesser level

This reaction then may also be related to a situation of a communal or local disaster. When disaster strikes either, whether of natural or man-made origin, one has to decide remain in the home location or to evacuate to somewhere ‘safer’.

This decision will be one, if not THE, biggest decision you will ever make, and it comes with many caveats and complexities, The one standing major issue is that this life changing decision will be your (and your family’s) choice, and once taken will have be followed through with all its consequences. This is a decision not to be taken lightly, and depends on many circumstances and issues of preparedness that we will now go through.

EMP -Electro magnetic Pulse event

The possibility of an EMP event appears to be an increasing topic of conversation on many fronts - military, government and prepper forums etc..
An event of this kind may be the result of either a nuclear explosion in the atmosphere or the result of a major X class Solar mass ejection geo directive - headed this way -
The result being that all unprotected electronic equipment, computers, iphones vehicles with computerised parts etc etc will all cease functioning immediatley after the blast.

The worrying issue is, as you may hear in the below audio, the governments and military are concentrating on a possible nuke/EMP event genereated by Iran... all false flag talk - in my humble opinion we will more than likely experience an EMP event triggered by our sun first!!

For a full background of the effects of an EMP event read my article in my 'Are You Prepared  for a Jericho type event' and the section on this subject
http://www.ambilacuk.com/jericho/5emp.html

Basically if we are 'hit' with an EMP event we will literally slip rapidly back into the 'dark ages'

Now listen to the audio interview with Dr Peter Vincent who has served with the White House and government sections for some years and is an advisor on EMP for the Homeland security

Readiness - Preparedness and understanding for future events

There has been a host of diverse events over the last month or so concerning the global economic situation, the extremes of weather (droughts and floods) extreme solar activity, lack of crops and hike of food prices - so much so it is difficult to know where to start!
In addition we have witnessed recently the tragic shooting event in a Denver, colorado, cinema where 12 people were killed and many injured - some would say a bizarre and complex event that is yet to be completely understood - so many variables, missing pieces of information and 'lack of evidence' concerning the actual timing of the incident
Whatever one would think, it was indeed a tragic event especially for the friends and family for all concerned.

The question is, will we witness more events like this?

It is this question I will address and the complex and heated debate of the issue of firearms and the 'right' to bear them....and indeed are they 'effective' and even necessary...a hot topic..I will look at both sides of the argument - coming up in the next article before the end of July.

I am also compiling an article on 'Phase 2' of my earlier article on 'The time for Preparedness is Now!'... are we ready for a major disaster? whether natural or man-made? and how to recognise the signs - which we are already experiencing!

London Olympics Games XXX Olympiad - I will also touch on this upcoming event as we have received a number of 'heads up' of a possible 'false flag' so called terrorist attack - we will take a cautionary look at the possibility of such an 'attack' and what it may incur.

Keep tuned in...

Preparedness?? why bother it will not happen here!

My title of this post just about sums the attitude of the majority...when I ask people what preparedness activities they have been organising in case of an event, no matter how minor, the usual reply why bother? ..the 'authorities' will come to our assistance'..or, I will go down to the store and get a few days of supplies in, no 'problem'..or 'Preparedness? that's what those weird folks in the woods do!'
The slightest disaster can creep up like a 'thief in the night' when you least expect it, whether it is a local minor power outage, ot a major general disaster..
Aeons ago in the early 1960's I recall watching a western movie, typical 'cowboys and Indians'; ('them and us' etc) where some 'dude' sitting in a stagecoach says in reply to 'watch out for the indians'..'Injuns? there 'ain't no darn Injuns round this place' - within seconds an arrow came whizzing through the open carriage window and killed him outright~!  so much for 'it ain't going to happen 'round here'..

Being prepared is a natural phenomena in our culture..unfortunately, 'our modern culture' has lost the plot due to the many modern methods of supply, living and eating habits..Some years ago I started an online book with this in mind, based on the American television series 'Jericho', whereby a nuclear device is exploded on US soil and we follow the aftermath of survival, practical solutions and the pychological fall out.. you can read some of my chapters here..

http://www.ambilacuk.com/safesurvival/jericho.html

Follow the links on that page to continue with the reading and links.

Bear in mind that there is an average of only 73 hours in the turn around of food supplies to all supermarkets...once tranpsort is delayed or stopped for any reason, the shelves of your local grocery store will soon be emptied!

Bear in mind...when the crunch comes and a disaster is upon us the 'authorities' will be too busy sorting out their own issues and challenges and will be over worked ..expect no help for some time..when the crunch comes be prepared to be on your own!

I have covered this scenario, including help for the very young and 'seniors; and pets etc in my preparedness site - www.ambilacuk.com/safesurvival where many aspects and subject areas are covered.

In addition, we have recently witnessed one of the most sudden and severe storms on the East coast of the States, where major power outages were experienced, and a number of people killed, and all this in the middle of a major heatwave.
It appears it could be many days before power supplies are fixed..

'Natural news' have published what I consider a very apt and succinct article on this scenario and the apathetic approach to preparedness...

10 sobering realizations the Eastern U.S. power grid failure is teaching us about a real collapse

By Mike Adams editor

A very useful and succinct article Mike, saves me writing one up! Many thanks..

I urge you all to take the subject of preparedness seriously..as I always say - B safe B wise

Take care all

Economic melt down - latest RBS banking 'glitch'

We have all witnessed in the past 18 months or so the issues and problems facing many countries in North America, Europe and many other areas...as many know, it does not take much for a melt down in financial markets...
Let us take oil and fuel as an example...the slightest cut in supplies to transportation companies or to the end user results in total chaos down the line...did you know that the grocery supermarket chains for example, only have a turn around of 72 hours of food supplies! The slightest cut in this chain means disaster for the person on the street - no fuel, no tranpsort to re supply and stock the shelves of your local supermarket.
The rush would have been started in the first 24 hours - = empty shelves.

Another example has recently hit home to UK people with accounts in RBS associated banks, Nat-west etc, where they say a few days ago a 'technical glitch'; resulted in no balances, account holders unable to see if their pay has gone in or mortgages gone out, or indeed if any mony is in there a all.
This has resulted in many people being unable to withdraw money, unable to buy food or fuel and many people in the process of buying houses or moving...absolutely stuck in mid stream..

The banks have said they would help as far as they can and would take the unprecedent step of opening on sundays..tomorrow.
However, this has led to much panic in the streets, people trying to buy food and supplies etc...if they can..
Many believe, and I tend to agree, that this 'glitch' may have been sonme sort of Hack, and authorities afraid to admit it...whatever the cause, much concern and panic has hit the streets of UK this weekend..

Here is an article from Tech week Europe - with some comments from its readers
http://www.techweekeurope.co.uk/news/natwest-rbs-banking-systems-fail-83561

NatWest and RBS customers have been hit by a systems glitch that means many cannot make or receive payments, whilst a number of online services are down.
Customer account balances have not been updated, leaving many concerned over when they will receive funds they are due. NatWest and RBS are part of the same group and share IT infrastructure in various ways

Customer fears

Customers have flocked to Twitter to vent their fear and frustration over the technical fail. One told TechWeekEurope they were concerned about not being able to buy food.
“I rely on my money being there today as I was going to buy food! All we have is bread & cheese in this flat,” complained Heather Cranmer. “Plus, bills start coming out tomorrow. Is NatWest going to give me some food to tide me over? Are they going to pay the late fees on my bills as it’s their fault?”

As we all know, it only takes a hiccup or a sneeze before we all fall down...!

Are we expecting a storm-filled summer?

Apologies for the break in transmission - normal service will be resumed ASAP...especially as it appears the next few months look to be a particularly 'interesting' time weatherwise, not forgetting possible economic and financial 'crashes'...just be prepped like the Boy scouts!

Well, Hurricane season started on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts recently, and it does look like there are a number of gathering storms out there..keep an eye out on those..

In the meantime, here is an interesting article from accuweather.com regarding New York and the summer storms..
http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/new-york-tops-hurricane-storm/66639

In brief...
The 2012 CoreLogic Storm-Surge Report released on June 7, 2012, puts New York, N.Y., at the top of their storm surge risk list with potential hurricane damage that exceeds $168 billion.
CoreLogic is a financial, property and consumer information, analytics and services company that works with government agencies, insurance companies, mortgage companies and others, according to the CoreLogic website.
The report looked at the potential damage to structures along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the U.S. due to storm surge from hurricanes.
Overall, the report estimates that more than 4 million U.S. homes are at risk of hurricane storm-surge flooding in 2012.
The estimates were made using CoreLogic's database of properties that are located within the perimeter of predetermined storm-surge polygon.

Keep looking in, I will be updating the survival and preparedness blog at regular intervals...for more on preparation and what to do in a variety of natural and man-made disasters go nof further than my preparedness site...

USGS Monitors Earth’s Magnetic Field to Prepare Citizens for Magnetic Storms

Everyone is familiar with weather systems on Earth like rain, wind and snow. But space weather – variable conditions in the space surrounding Earth – has important consequences for our lives inside Earth’s atmosphere.
Solar activity occurring miles outside Earth’s atmosphere, for example, can trigger magnetic storms on Earth. These storms are visually stunning, but they can set our modern infrastructure spinning.
On Jan. 19, scientists saw a solar flare in an active region of the Sun, along with a concentrated blast of solar-wind plasma and magnetic field lines known as a coronal mass ejection that burst from the Sun’s surface and appeared to be headed for Earth.
When these solar winds met Earth’s magnetic field, the interaction created one of the largest magnetic storms on Earth recorded in the past few years. The storm peaked on Jan. 24, just as another storm began.
“These new storms, and the storm we witnessed on Sept 26, 2011, indicate the up-tick in activity coming with the Earth’s ascent into the next solar maximum,” said USGS geophysicist Jeffrey Love.” This solar maximum is the period of greatest activity in the solar cycle of the Sun, and it is predicted to occur sometime in 2013, which will increase the amount of magnetic storms on Earth.
Magnetic storms, said Love, are a space weather phenomenon responsible for the breathtaking lights of the aurora borealis, but also sometimes for the disruption of technology and infrastructure our modern society depends on. Large magnetic storms, for example, can interrupt radio communication, interfere with global-positioning systems, disrupt oil and gas well drilling, damage satellites and affect their operations, and even cause electrical blackouts by inducing voltage surges in electric power grids. Storms can also affects airline activity — as a result of last weekend’s storm, both Air Canada and Delta Air Lines rerouted flights over the Arctic bound for Asia as a precautionary measure. Although the storm began on the 19th of January, it did not peak until January 24th.

Snow buries parts of eastern, central Europe

Parts of eastern and central Europe were hit hard by heavy snow and frigid temperatures for a second day Thursday, leaving hundreds trapped in cars, dozens of communities without power and at least one person dead. Some areas saw as much as 10 feet of snow.
Some 340 people were evacuated overnight from stranded vehicles on roads across Romania, Prime Minister Emil Boc said, and another 100 people were transported during the day to Bucharest after getting stuck on two major roads.

Global Cooling Coming?

Global Cooling Coming? Archibald uses solar and surface data to predict 4.9°C fall

David Archibald, polymath, makes a bold prediction that temperatures are about to dive sharply (in the decadal sense). He took the forgotten correlation that as solar cycles lengthen and weaken, the world gets cooler. He refined it into a predictive tool, tested it and published in 2007. His paper has been expanded on recently by Prof Solheim in Norway, who predicts a 1.5°C drop in Central Norway over the next ten years.
Our knowledge of they solar dynamo is improving, and David adds the predicted solar activity ’til 2040 to the analysis. Normal solar cycles are 11 years long, but the current one (cycle 24) is shaping up to be 17 years (unusually long), and using historical data from the US, David predicts a 2.1°C decline over Solar Cycle 24 followed by a further 2.8°C over Solar Cycle 25. That adds up to a whopping 4.9°C fall in temperate latitudes over the next 20 years. We can only hope he’s wrong. As David says ” The center of the Corn Belt, now in Iowa, will move south to Kansas.”

UK preparedess month September 2012

In 2007 I proposed to set aside December as a month of UK National Preparedness towards an awareness and understanding of preparedness activities in readiness for disasters and emergencies.

From this year, 2012, I propose to change the month to September in order that we will align with the US-FEMA preparedness month of September. Hopefully this way we will attract and encourage more interest and responses and to discuss ways and means of readiness/responses and preparations in times of emergency and disasters

Are we going to feel the economic and global ice cold freeze in 2012?

Last year, 2011, the US for example, experienced 99 major natural disasters alone, causing claims totalling 35 Billion bucks in insurance  - and still yet more claims are in the offering.
2011 witnessed  major global disasters such as floods, fires, earthquakes and tsunami - all of which are yet to feel the backlash on our economic climate.
Russia, one of the three main world grain suppliers, suffered massive fires, resulting in a large drop in grain supply and thus for Russia to stop grain exports.
The same story unfolds in many other parts of the world - in addition, with the issues and problems with the Euro, 2012 looks to give way to some scary economic situations.

The tragic earthquake and resulting tsunami in Japan, caused not only many deaths, but opened up a barrel of questions on the use of Nuclear power plant operations...the radiation has still not been cleaned up, and there are many reports of the West coast of US with high radiation counts, and only this week we have observed many tons of wreckage from Fukishima being washed up on the coasts of British Columbia..

All of the above is causing what we know as the 'Domino effect' - eventually all our reserves will be depleted. This has been known for some time, which is why many Economists and bankers in the know have already left American soil for more eastern shores - and the opnes in the know and still at home are preparing to bunker down and buying up major shares, food supplies and equipment to ride the storm out.

I have not even mentioned the strong possibility of severe weather events that are forecast for 2012, which will also affect our daily lives and cost of living.
My advice, for what it is worth, is to start to prepare now, there is no harm in prepping up, and to sort out your larder and home supplies - remember B safe B Prepared B wise SURVIVE

Electro magnetic pulse - you have been zapped!

Following on from my 2012 introduction, readers may find this article I wrote some time ago - it is a chapter in the on-going and developing freely available on-line publication 'Are You Prepared for a 'Jericho-type' Event?' (From the idea of the TV series 'Jericho' where the premise is based upon the triggering of a number of nuclear blasts on US soil.

This chapter concerns an EMP - or Electro Magnetic Pulse event, whether caused by a major solar electromagnetic storm or man-made, the result is the same.... I include the intro here with the direct link.

Chapter 5 - High Power Microwave HPM - or, Get out of the Kitchen!

You awake one morning and discover your digital radio alarm clock is blank, not even flashing the display of '12:00' which normally occurs when there has been a temporary power outage. You reach for your non digital watch and discover you have overslept by 45 minutes - cursing you try the other radios and TV in the house and find... nadder! you try the house lights, again nadder -You check your mobile phone, no signal, so you try and ring a family member from the house landline to see what has happened..again..silence on the line!
You go outside and notice a few neighbours across the street attempting to start their cars, with no success, you also notice there are a few vehicles lying abandoned in the middle of the road. You try to start your vehicle - absolutely dead as a dodo! Suddenly, in the distance you hear a vehicle, not the sound of your 'normal' modern day engine relying on all those complex computerised chips, but the typical engine noise of a carburettor and plug system. It is old Joe who runs a VW workshop in town, trundling down the road in his pride and joy a 1969 VW transporter.
You scratch your head and go inside to make that morning cup of coffe and curse when you realise again there is no power.
You now realise someting very serious and odd has occurred!
This would be the initial effect of an Electro Magnetic pulse (EMP) EVENT.
The event can be caused by natural means, such as a major solar storm, or man-made by the reaction of a nuclear explosion high up in the atmosphere. Or, in today's modern technological orientated world, an 'E' bomb! - You have been well and truly 'zapped'!

Welcome to 2012

The year 2012 has been hailed as one that is going to offer diverse extremes, both on the weather and natural events and on the 'man'made' front - e.g. escalation of conflicts and possible 'one minute to midnight' scenarios.
One particular natural occurence that will increase significantly is that of the activity of the sun - solar activity is expected to arrive in major doses, with extreme Coronal mass ejections bringing Geo active storms earthbound - one of the resulting issues of this activity will be the increase in Electro magnetic storms affecting our earth.
Our outer planetary Electromagnetic protective sphere has been rapidly eroding for some time, thus it will not take much for a severe EM storm to make its effect on our planet.
It has happened before in recent history, and will occur again - and soon.

The effects will cause major power outages, satellite communications disruptions and break down in regional power plants - Just be aware that this type of event is a certainty, knowing when is another question, just be prepared!
